Hopefully our neighbors won’t call the police.

Last night my husband and I started our christmas shopping.  My kids gave us their initial Christmas list (which will grow threefold by the time Christmas actually rolls around).  At the top of each boys list was a drum set. They were probably thinking the sound of the drums would drown out my nagging voice.

My boys do love music.  My youngest son, Cade, has been using a Tinker Toy lid and 2 wood Tinker Toys as his drum set for about 6 months.  And he loves to get his older brothers together to play rock band.  So, Brad and I headed off to Toys R Us in search of drums.

Initially, my husband pulled a small wood drum from the shelf, threw it in the cart and started to move on. “HOLD IT!” I exclaimed, what about the other 2 boys.  ”They can all share that drum, right?” he responded. We perused the drums, with Brad trying to get me to buy something small and sensible.  Then, I came to a gorgeous blue 5-piece drum set.  It was on sale too.  Obviously, no parent in their right mind buys a 5-piece drum set for a house full of 3 boys.  Well, I have to say, I must be a great sales lady, because somehow I convinced my husband that we had to buy this drum set: symbols, special seat and all. 10 GIFTS THAT ARE FREE

I first heard this list of “Gifts” at the funeral of my husband’s grandmother.  She gave these gifts all the time and I didn’t get to reflect that until I heard this at her funeral.  I want to give these gifts to my children, my family and my friends.  In honor of the holidays think about these extremely important gifts: Continue reading

Kim Castner- mom and creator of Go Green Lunch Boxes

Bringing a dream to life is something that many of us talk about, and that’s it…we just talk about it.  Kim Castner is one of those people who was able  to transform her dream into a tangible product:  Go Green Lunch Boxes.

When I met Kim for the first time, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Since we met for coffee, I thought about bringing my own mug from home (out of respect to the environment).  I assumed someone who so thoughtfully created an environmentally friendly lunch box must be some sort of green guru.  I was relieved to find out she was more like the rest of us busy moms.  Certainly she places a high priority on doing her part to save the planet, but her attitude is more in line with each of us doing our best because even small changes can make a big impact over time. The passage below describes how Kim came up with the concept: Continue reading

Dishes, exercise, laundry, cooking then blogging.

The last two weeks I have questioned if I have what it takes to keep The Inspired Mom interesting, growing and inspiring.  This past month I have been focusing on daily survival vs. the bigger picture.  Feeling overwhelmed and short on time to dedicate to my site, I started to wonder if anyone cared what I had to say.  When I asked that question out loud my two year old and my cat were the only ones around.  I asked them,”Do you think anyone really cares about my blog?”  I do believe that speaking the words gets a better response than just thinking them (even if you are in the room alone).

While I didn’t get response from Cade or Roxy (the cat), I did get a phone call the next morning from one of my good friends who told me that she overheard someone else talking about my blog. Continue reading
